Famous parents ... Annette Bening and Warren Beatty.
Warren Beatty and Annette Bening's oldest child has publicly revealed she is now a he, in a new online video.
Born Kathlyn Elizabeth Bening Beatty, the Hollywood couple's 20-year-old daughter now goes by the name Stephen Ira Beatty, and calls himself a "Trans-man... a homosexual, a queer" in a new post on website WeHappyTrans.
And he claims it's liberating to be able to reveal the truth.
"It's nice to finally be able to have my identity be legible to people," he said. But that's not all he said. Stephen appears to be hyper-articulate, witty and, we're going to call it: openly intellectual.
Stephen has been undergoing hormonal treatment since last December but says in the video that he initially came out as transgender at the age of 14.
It hasn't been all smooth sailing though for the scion of Hollywood royalty.
Stephen makes several pointed references in the video presentation to his desire for greater empathy and appreciation of human complexity and omits any mention of family when thanking the most supportive people in his life.
Ironically, despite her critically acclaimed portrayal of a lesbian mother in 2010's award-winning arthouse hit The Kids Are All Right, Annette Bening is said to be distressed by her daughter's decision to change sex and Stephen's father, the famously hyper-heterosexual Warren Beatty, is faring no better, according to US media reports.
But Stephen's parents' difficulty in coming to terms with his gender reassignment hasn't put him off family plans of his own.
In his video, obtained by US TV news show Entertainment Tonight, Beatty reveals his dreams of becoming a teacher and hopes to become a father one day.
"I am going to have babies and give them onesies with 'this is what a transfeminist looks like' on them," he said.
