A passion for stylish interiors runs deep in the family of Melbourne bachelor Nick Peters. With his mother and two sisters all interior designers, and Nick himself the founder of online art business Canvas & Canvas, it's no surprise that the home he shares with his mother, Vikki, in Melbourne's inner east is a showcase of striking design elements and current interior trends. "My sisters and I were surrounded by amazing interiors from a really young age," he says. "It fed our ongoing obsession for design, and this home reflects that."

The three-bedroom house is designed along classic lines and was completed two years ago. Generously wide charcoal American oak floorboards add warmth to the all-white paint scheme, and timeless furniture has been emboldened with eye-catching upholstery.

It was a visit to the Affordable Art Fair in New York in 2010 that sparked Nick's venture into an online art gallery. "I love how art inspires conversations," says Nick. "The pieces in our range are often driven by what I would love on my own walls."

With a layout that is perfectly geared to accommodate everything from quiet family dinners through to large-scale parties, this home gives the impression that it sees a lot of entertaining action. "Yes, it does see all that, and more," admits Nick. Asked if he has any future plans for it, he laughs and says, "Well, hosting a Victoria's Secret parade after-party would be pretty nice."
