Gay drama teacher Michael Neri received a text last week from the Christian mother of two of his students who informed him she would be pulling her kids from his class because she didn't want them to be influenced by "unconventional ideas".
Neri runs a drama school in the UK called Talking Props Theatre School and is currently working on a production of Rent, according to BuzzFeed.
His witty and unapologetic response to the disgruntled mother has been shared thousands of times online and has made headlines around the world since he posted it on Twitter.
Got a lovely text this week pic.twitter.com/UWPGRycuph— Michael Neri (@michaelneri) November 16, 2015
First he told her that his sexuality doesn't affect his ability to teach, "just like it wouldn't effect a doctors ability to treat one of your children".
Then he wished her luck finding a stage school that met her *cough, homophobic* needs, before adding this sick burn: "however from experience I find that theatre without gays is like cooking without spices".
He ended by inviting her to an upcoming production of Happy Days: "confetti will be used in the finale but please rest assured this is not an attempt to corrupt your Christian lifestyle. We just love glitter."
And the best part? He refused to refund her deposit but assured her the money would be donated to LGBTI charity StoneWall.
Neri told BuzzFeed that, while the text was hurtful, "life is too short to worry about what other people think".
"I always preach to my students, 'Be yourself, life would be boring if everyone was the same.' I simply put my words into action for myself."
