Watch: the trailer for To The Wonder
As writer/ director Terence Malick has proven in movies like The Thin Red Line and last year's Tree of Life, he's not really a 'dialogue' kind of guy. Malick favours huge, sweeping - wondrous! - landscapes, symbolism, choreographed movement, (a sort of sensual T'ai Chi if you will) and just a sprinkling of divinity for good measure. And so it is with the plot of To the Wonder, which according to IMDB, goes something like this:
"After visiting Mont Saint-Michel, Marina, (Olga Kurylenko) and Neil, (Ben Affleck) come to Oklahoma, where problems arise. Marina meets a priest, (Javier Bardem) and fellow exile, who is struggling with his vocation, while Neil renews his ties with a childhood friend, Jane, (Rachel McAdams)."
Although you wouldn't really know it from the trailer which seems to be heavy on that sensual T'ai Chi in lots of wheat fields. In fact the whole thing looks like an elongated Andrew Wyeth painting.
