An anonymous artist is getting some deserving love for her illustrations that do a pretty excellent job of articulating the feelings of her fellow feminists. Especially those of us who sometimes have difficulty reconciling our feminism with our love of girly pink things.
The woman behind the Ambivalently Yours Tumblr describes her work as "feminist rants, questionable advice, too much pink".
In a recent blog post, she explained the project came about from navigating the reactions she got as a feminist who also happens to love – and work in – fashion.
"At work I became the feminist killjoy every time I raised a concern about the sexist undertones in our campaigns," she wrote, while "in art school I became the fashion girl who many assumed was duped by the patriarchy just because I liked cute clothes and girly colours."
"The assumptions about my relationship with femininity and feminism felt belittling."
And so 'Ambivalently Yours' was born, giving the artist an outlet not just to express her own ambivalent feelings, but to reach out to others who feel similar... or completely different.
And it is great.
