Will Smith and his mini-me son, Jaden Smith, co-star in After Earth, a fast-paced action thriller in the key of Jurassic Park, (with a little bit of Planet of the Apes thrown in for good measure on account of the whole 'we are actually on Earth' deal). And that's not a spoiler because they say pretty much those exact words in the trailer.
The official description of the plot is this: 'After a crash landing, a father and son explore a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier.'
Now let's look at Tom Cruise's new blockbuster hopeful, Oblivion. The plot for this one is as follows, 'A court martial sends a veteran soldier to a distant planet, where he has to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself.'
Could that planet be ... EARTH by any chance?
So you see, we have a theme here. After Earth opens on June 7 in the US and Oblivion opens on July 16. Which leaves poor Tom Cruise, (a man who has already suffered a couple of blows this year, let's be honest) at a real disadvantage. Why don't you watch the trailers below and tell us - does Hollywood know something we don't? Something armagedonny?
