Stephen Merchant, the co-creator of the UK smash hit comedy The Office, has just landed a television deal with HBO. Called Hello Ladies, the sitcom will star Merchant, who stands at exactly 2 metres tall and was once referred to by Ricky Gervais as a 'googly-eyed freak', as an awkward Englishman searching for love in Los Angeles. The show is loosely based on his standup act. HBO has ordered 8 episodes of the series so far.

Deadline reports

Half as charming as he thinks he is — and twice as desperate — he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people. Unfortunately the beautiful people won’t let him in.

Oh poor Stephen.

The series will also star Christine Woods, Nate Torrence and Kevin Weisman.
