You probably heard about Howard Stern's vile comments earlier this week. The shock jock, last deemed relevant in 1992, called the creator and star of Girls, Lena Dunham a 'little fat chick' who looked like 'Jonah Hill' among other things. Dunham responded by saying she found it funny and also by winning two Golden Globes. Almost immediately after her win, Stern decided to issue an apology of sorts on his radio program, telling listeners:
"I felt bad because I really do love the show Girls, and enjoy it, and I admire the girl who writes it," he said on-air. "It makes me feel bad, and I think she is getting the impression that I somehow think she's just a talentless little fat chick."
Gee Howard, we wonder how anyone could come to that conclusion.
So Dunham decided on Wednesday that she would pay him a visit. Cue Stern's back-pedalling.
"I don't even know where to begin with all of this," an apologetic Stern began. "The reason I felt so awful was because when Perez Hilton wrote his article, he told half the story. ...I started to compare you to Woody Allen ... the whole thing came together for me.”
In conclusion, Stern told Dunham "I guess I just wanted to tell you I love you and I think you're terrific."
Undeterred, Dunham responded. "I'm not that fat, Howard," she said. "I don't mean to take major issue with you about this. I'm not super thin, but I'm thin for, like, Detroit."
