Claire Danes looking appropriately moody for her Elle Magazine cover shoot.

The Golden Globes are just around the corner - next Monday in fact - and if there is one person almost guaranteed to take home a statue it's Claire Danes for her mesmerising role in Homeland. Still, it's not a total lock, which is why it pays to do some chick-friendly publicity just before the ceremony. If you want to call it a ceremony - Tina Fey calls it a 'sloppy party.'

Enter Elle Magazine! Claire is on the cover of the February issue looking reasonably intense and inside spills the beans on her blissful domestic situation. As per the rules of award-grabbing, you must give away just enough about your personal life to pique our interest but not enough to completely betray yourself and your family. It's really quite an art and something Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Ben Affleck appear to have nailed.

Here is Claire's effort:

“I’ve always wanted to have kids, but I’m glad I didn’t until now. When I was thinking about [working and being a mother] originally, I was really nervous about it."

Now, here comes controversy! At least for those stay-at-home mothers who choose to take this personally. And if the ongoing Mummy Wars are anything to go by, we can bet that some mothers will.

“I think I would make a lousy stay-at-home mom. It just wouldn’t suit me. I feel so fortunate in that I’ve had this straight-arrow focus … that I wanted to act.”

But it's okay guys - she is totally devoted to her husband. In other words, she's not a selfish shrew.

“Hugh was just the right partner for me. I got very, very lucky. There’s only so much credit you can take when it just sort of works, you know?” she shares.

“And obviously we work hard at maintaining our relationship — that is central to both our lives — but at the same time, it’s just this kind of ease that I can’t really account for.”

How is that? Enough to wet your whistle until the Emmys? Because it's likely she'll not whisper another word about family life between now and September. Well played, Danes.

Although it wasn't all family-focused. There is this delightful anecdote about meeting the (very modest) President of the United States.

On meeting President Obama (a fan of Homeland) with her husband Hugh at the White House Correspondent’s dinner: “Hugh was like, ‘We have to meet Obama,’ and we walked over before we could think and found ourselves shaking hands with him. Hugh realized that he’d forgotten to actually properly introduce himself, and he [President Obama] was like, ‘And you are?’ And Hugh was like, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. President.’ I said, ‘I’m Claire Danes,’ and he said, ‘Oh, you’re a fine actress.’ And I said, ‘You’re a fine president!’ And he said, ‘Oh, you’re a finer actress than I am president.’ I didn’t have any retort. Hugh and I went immediately to the bar and had a big shot of vodka.”
