Ok, let's set the scene: Vogue editor and semi-fictional character, Anna Wintour was in Little Rock, Arkansas yesterday, honoring Oscar de la Renta for designing some of Hillary Clinton's most memorable pantsuits. The tribute, attended by both Mr and Mrs Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Oscar himself, was part of a promotion for the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Arkansas, where Bill was once governor and where a handful of the famed pantsuits currently reside.
So Wintour makes a speech and it's totally fine and all, beginning with
“She always looked entirely appropriate wherever she was and nearly always in Oscar."
But then comes the kicker:
“It’s anyone’s guess what the next chapter will be for this extraordinary woman,” Wintour said. “I can only hope that all of you here in Little Rock will be celebrating her come November 2016.”
Now, a naive person might imagine that Wintour is being kind and a little tongue-in-cheek with her friend. But then one would forget that Hillary Clinton is already making quiet plans for a presidential run and that Wintour publicly endorsed Barack Obama, as The Daily Beast points out, 'The Vogue editor's strong political ties have certainly been influential in the past. She has been a public supporter of President Barack Obama and was one of his top reelection fundraisers -- and earlier this year, she hired from within the DNC.'
Let us all remember too, that Wintour is a lot of things but she is most definitely not a humourist.
