You know Portia Freeman? Me neither. But that’s a major misstep I’m desperately trying to rectify after coming across her photo at the Folli Follie & Kids Company Collection Launch. (Which, to be honest with you, I also kind of knew zero about). But there’s no real need to know know a person to admire them from afar, right?
If anything, it helps to embrace the air of mystery when it comes to dissecting an outfit this adorable and contained. ‘Casual preppy’ is a tough look to master. Go too hard and it slips into the mature age student territory, too cutesy and you cross wires with Zooey Deschanel.
Here, the 23-year-old model somehow strikes the perfect balance by mixing a slouchy boyfriend coat with a bright lip and a simple collared shirt + jumper medley. The result is fun but understated, with the classic elements brought together by a mini leather shoulder bag.
You can tell Freeman is a style veteran by the way she celebrates risk. Let’s turn our attention to her cat shoes for a minute. Animal motifs (though rampant on the highstreets) can be serious eye broccoli. There are very few dignified ways to incorporate cat faces into wearables, but Freeman has definitely turned her feline flats into a triumph – and for that, Portia, I shall remember thee.
