If there’s one thing that Mebourne Cup and runway fashion have in common, it’s the art of normalising excess. Which means even the most hardened couture designers should've felt right at home amongst a sea of undulating fascinators by the race tracks yesterday – theoretically speaking.
In actual fact, it’s often hard to feel relaxed when confronted by an assault of primary colours and life-threatening millenary. The abundance of affordable sparkling wine doesn’t help either – but that’s a whole different story.
Thank goodness for Rose Byrne. An oasis of calm amidst the Cup Day frenzy, Byrne dazzles in a simple Alex Perry striped dress. The structured cut adds a casual charm to the look, while her cleverly chosen Chanel floral headpiece nods ever so slightly at the day’s festivities.
Sometimes there’s no better way to stand out from the crowd than a little bit of artful restraint.
