What are the key trends do you think we will be seeing on the catwalks this year?
It’s impossible to predict what designers will show on their runways until the lights go down, which of course is a big part of the excitement. However, referencing international collections is still sadly a perennial theme.
What do you enjoy most about fashion week?
Discovering new design talent. It’s what makes it all worthwhile and its the future of the industry
What is your least favourite part of fashion week?
Fabulous nobodies. The least important people are always those most likely to have a tantrum about seating or spend an inordinate amount of time photographing each other rather than the runway. Let’s get on with the business of Fashion Week
Which show are you most excited about and why?
Romance Was Born is always a thrill. I did in fact shed a tear at their Doilies and Pearls show at the Walsh Bay wharf, so I’ll have my hanky ready when they open Fashion Week there on Monday. The launch of Toni Maticevski’s new ready to wear line, Maticevski, is also at the top of my list. Elegant, sophisticated and WEARABLE clothing for women of all ages. Rocket science in the world of fashion.
Who is the next wunderkind/face to watch and why?
I’m looking forward to Michael Lo Sordo.
How do you prepare for fashion week (choosing outfits, logistics etc)
Soup in the freezer. Flats in the tote. Macbook Air and iPhone. A sense of humour. A flexible concept of time (shows always run late)
How has fashion week evolved since its beginnings in 1995? What are some of the key changes?
Read all about it in my News Review article on the future of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia on Saturday.

What are the key trends do you think we will be seeing on the catwalks this year?
Prints and colour! And a sporty edge.
What do you enjoy most about fashion week?
I love catching up with everyone, and I love seeing lots of new clothes and trends and feeling the excitement build as we start planning our spring/summer issues.
What is your least favourite part of fashion week?
I absolutely hate waiting for late shows, and that I don't get to spend as much time with my kids that week and am not home for dinner!
Which show are you most excited about and why?
Carl Kapp for his clever draping, Zimmermann for the perfect prints, Romance Was Born for the spectacle and Magdalena for her interesting details.
Who is the next wunderkind/face to watch and why?
Carl Kapp. He is on the verge of doing great things and cuts so well.
How do you prepare for fashion week?
On staff, we sit down the week before and plan out who does what, when. Who's pinning, who's tweeting, who's blogging, who's shooting, who's writing, who's hunting down something to eat - and most importantly, who's driving and parking the car. You need to get from A to B quickly and parking around Sydney is a nightmare! I am not very patient so I never get to look after the car. I also rely on a Blackberry so I can get some work done when shows are running late. Which did I mention I hate?
How has fashion week evolved since its beginnings in 1995? What are some of the key changes?
Er, I'm older! I guess many of the key designers have shifted or changed. There really is a new generation of designers coming through and that's generated some excitement within the industry. There is also greater expectations of the designers.
It's a little more corporate now, or low key. Maybe it was because I was younger but there seemed to be a bit more partying, visiting celebs, supermodels, singers performing at shows etc. I remember those throbbing Wayne Cooper or Morrissey Edmiston shows that were all sex and rock 'n roll, people lining up for hours to get in, jostling into the front rows. Now it's more about the low key excellence of designers like Dion Lee just creating beautiful clothes.

What are the key trends do you think we will be seeing on the catwalks this year?
Sculptural silhouettes, print clash, peplums, red, longer length skirts, print suits, statement pants.
What do you enjoy most about fashion week?
Seeing the designers really follow through on a theme and expressing their creativity and aesthetic.
What is your least favourite part of fashion week?
Late night shows.
Which show are you most excited about and why?
Romance was Born because it is always such a surprise, Jenny Kee's installation - she is so creative and an Australian icon, and Ellery because she is going from strength to strength.
Who is the next wunderkind/face to watch and why?
I would say Michael Lo Sordo is the one to watch, he has been quietly making a name for himself and developing strong collections.
How do you prepare for fashion week (choosing outfits, logistics etc)
I am not a planner with my wardrobe - my wardrobe is varied and it depends on the mood and what is required from me that day
How has fashion week evolved since its beginnings in 1995? What are some of the key changes?
It has been a launching pad for a lot of designers and has opened the doors and encouraged people to present their collections overseas through the contacts they have made with fashion week. Now I see it more as a spring board for younger designers to push themselves to think about creating collections rather than pieces.
