The itty, bitty bikini might still reign, but there's a welcome return of fabric in swimwear this season with a turn toward full briefs, high waists and full-piece togs. Hurrah, shouts nearly everybody. But there's still a whole lot of flesh on the flash with the new line in cossies with strategic cut-outs a prominent trend.
Swim collections at fashion week this year gave us high-waisted bombshell-esque bottom's, graphic printed one-pieces and glam, free-flowing cover-ups. Florals and a touch of nautical were popular as were a general lean toward the bold, the bright and the beautiful. Sport cuts such as the swim squad favourite, the catsuit featured and t-bar backs popped up too, a boon for those who prefer body surfing to the sunlounger. And always, a sprinkling of sexiness.
Celebrity favourite label We are Handsome (worn by the likes of Rhianna, Diane Kruger and Florence Welch) were a stand-out, with their 80s inspired show including models on bicycles and some more seriously excellent prints from designers Jeremy Somers and Indhra Chagoury such as a horse, penguins in the snow and drifting clouds. Perennial favourite White Sands had pretty florals and Sydney Eastern Suburbs resort wear go-to Camilla Franks threw cost to the wind with her glamorous show that included tipi tents, a couldron of flames, Georgia May Jagger and of course her kaliedoscopic kaftans.
