From banking to fashion design
Showing his collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia for the first time, Adi Setiadi of An Ode to No One tells us how he made the switch from a job in banking, to fashion design.
Designer and director of fashion label An Ode to No One, Adi Setiadi, has had little sleep over the last few weeks as he perfects his collection for his first showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
But life for Adi could have taken a very different turn. After leaving Indonesia, he completed a degree in commerce and finance and started working in a bank. But found his heart wasn't in it.
"I realized it wasn't what I wanted in life…. .I thought I would go with what felt really right for me, and I haven't looked back."
So he packed up his calculator and went on to study design. He picked up roles working with Akira Isogawa and gained the position of Head Designer for Nicola Finetti's diffusion label 'Nylon Flocks'.
"My parents weren't very happy about it to begin with. I think they wanted me to go into something more secure, as most parents would".
He is hoping his mother will be a guest at his show.
An Ode to No One shows on Wednesday at 7pm at The Theatre.
