Dressing for summer can be fraught. What with the sticking frocks, melting makeup and urge to strip off all of your clothes and do a bomb into the nearest swimming pool, ocean or fountain. While long days at the beach and tramping sandy footed to the bar are one of life's pleasures, there is still work, socialising and wearing items other than your bikini to be had.
Dresses are fashions easiest items. While designers at this year's collections focused on separates rather than the almighty frock, there's not much that you can't do in and with a dress. Opt for breathable fabrics where possible - quality cotton, linen and jersey. Silk might not be super practical but there's little as lovely as the feel of a filmy silk against sun scorched skin.
Bright colours are big this summer, with orange the clear winner. Bold prints and soft florals and pastels are always solid choices for summer, and there are plenty of Australian lables to look to such as Zimmermann, LIFEwithBIRD and Manning Cartell to name a few.
The midrifff is still enjoying a moment in the sun (literally, right!), but also never forget the power of a silky shirtdress - the perfect summer option when you still need to look smart. Kaftans are of course the easiest and most forgiving option. Never forget the power of a good pair of espadrilles and the sheer and utter importance of sunscreen.
