It's swimsuit season!
Swirling prints make a bold statement. (Left: Collette by Collette Dinnigan underwire bra top and tie side pant set $149.00)
At swim week in Miami earlier this year there were several key trends emerging amid the itty bitty, teeny weeny bikinis.
In an event that may take up at least 57% of the world's fake tan resources, there was a buffet of swimwear options. One-pieces with dramatic cut-outs were a strong option and stood out from the sea (hur hur) of bikinis.
Prints, as ever, ruled with everything from floral to splashes of leopard print and ziggy zaggy geometric numbers.
Keeping things pretty were the sweet pastel hues in green and pink and a few instances of the halterneck 50s pink-up girl brought the va va voom.
Shimmering fringe bikinis might not be for everyone, and indeed might not be suitable for water either, but boy do they look fun. And block colours such as black and green provided a contrast to the emphasis on bold, bright colours.
Invest in a sweet sarong or kaftan to travel from beach to bar and you know all of those choose which swimsuit is best for your shape articles? I call baloney, wear the one that makes you feel happiest. There's too much swimming to be had to care too much. The only real advice is that you're going to be body surfing, opt for something with a little grunt. It doesn't leave much dignity to be frantically searching for one's bikini top in the flotsam.
Happy, happy summer.
