Parting Ways

If there was an award for the most universally flattering hairstyle, it would hands down go to the low parting. Ever since spotting the side-swept dos at the Lacoste and Helmut Lang spring 2013 runway shows, I've wanted to wear my hair all shiny and sleek to one side. And this routine will get you pretty close. For the same lustrous-looking locks as the models, start by prepping the hair with a shine-boosting shampoo and conditioner combo (try L'Oréal Paris Hair Expertise EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner, $13 each) before working a little volumising mousse into damp hair.

The key to creating volume is to blow-dry the hair with the parting on the opposite side to where you want to wear it. This may sound wacky, but it works a treat at confusing the roots to boost body. After drying, use the tail-end of a fine-tooth comb to change the parting to the preferred side and leave the hair to fall naturally over your forehead so it covers one brow.

Hot tip: If you're not quite sure how far over to take things, always use the arch of the brow as a guide to where the parting should line up. Then, when you're heading into day two of the style, all you need to do is spritz the roots with dry shampoo before switching the parting (again) and voila! You've got runway-ready hair in less time than it takes to send a text.
