If we’re to take our cue from the Cannes Film Festival, it seems the days of sporting poker straight hair are numbered. Rather than battling it out with the straightening iron, right now, celebrity stylists are all about embracing natural texture with a bevy of soft, wispy styles. Here are three of the prettiest, most practical, not-too-perfect-looking ‘dos you need in your repertoire right now.
1.Add an ornament
While we may not be great at explaining what happened with the Facebook float, one thing we do know for certain is that fancy headdresses are on the up. You can make like Mila Jovovich with a crystal-encrusted clip worn on the side for an old-Hollywood feel, or you can follow Kirsten Dunst’s lead with a delicate floral and crystal covered headband woven into a messy milk-maid braid for contrast.

2. Pony for President
Like red lipstick, the humble pony will forever be a red carpet staple. This season, the emphasis has shifted north with the return of the tousled, cheerleader-high pony. Perfect for day-old hair, you want messy, straight-from-the-beach-looking texture, so if you’re starting from scratch, it pays to prep the hair with a volumising shampoo and conditioner. Take Barbara Palvin.

When it comes to styling, the grittier the hair, the greater the hold, so try working a golf-ball-sized amount of mousse into the roots and mid-sections before blow-drying. Then to finish, ditch the brush – it’ll only smooth down the volume, and use your fingers to rake the hair back into the elastic.
3. The slinky wave
Nowhere near as high maintenance as the Victoria’s Secret-style barrels and not quite as gritty as a beach wave, Lily Donaldson’s laid-back ‘do is the definition of wash-‘n’-wear hair at its finest.
Rather than creating full waves, you want soft bends so start by combing wet hair into a loose ponytail, before tying off the tail into small sections roughly three to four centimetres apart. Once that’s done, all you need to do is leave the style to work its magic over night before releasing the bands to discover perfectly styled ends in the morning.
