The Bobbi Brown Miami Collection

The Bobbi Brown Miami Collection

With less than a month until Spring, the countdown to higher-hemlines, wash-‘n’-wear hairstyles and more playful shades of lacquer and liner is on. We suggest you get a head-start on the season with one of these summer holiday-inspired makeup collections.

Born in the USA
Bobbi Brown is loved the world over for her fuss-free approach to makeup and her latest story, Bobbi Brown Miami Collection, has practicality and prettiness in spades. While the Limited Edition Shimmer Cheek Glow, $86, in Miami and Gold caught our eye, it’s the hardworking Limited Edition Shimmering Fragrance Oil, $70, that really won us over. The ultimate multi-tasker, it’s a hydrating body oil infused with notes of the Bobbi Brown Beach scent that’s so fragrant, it cancels out the need for wearing perfume.

The verdict: With shade names like Sunset Beach, Pink Seashell, Candlelight and Bronze Sugar, it’s the summer vacation you can afford. The entire range hits counters August 12 at selected David Jones and Myer Stores, 1800 061 326.

The sky’s the limit
When it comes to new season beauty trends, Chanel sets the pace. The latest collection boasts an all-blue palette of nail lacquer, eye shadow and liner inspired by the travel-themed Spring/Summer 2012 Haute Couture show where models worked their way down the runway, which was located inside a plane. Although the cornflower-blue shadow may not be for everyone, you can’t go wrong with a slick of the dark navy eye pencil, Bleu Aerin, smudged heavily along the top and bottom lash lines like the models for a cool nod to the night sky.

The verdict: Run, don’t walk. The entire Blue Illusion de Chanel range is on counters now.

Sun-seekers wanted
Inspired by the Isle of Capri, the Estee Lauder Limited Edition Bronze Goddess Capri Collection, has just-back-from-vacation-looking skin in the bag. Moving on from the peachy, pink tones, it’s all about earthy, bronzed shades of shadow that are designed to handle the heat. If you only buy one product, make it the Limited Edition Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée , $75, www.esteelauder.com.au. Once you recover from its beauty, you’ll realise it looks equally as pretty swept along the bottom lash line to open up the eye area as it does blended across the cheeks for an effortless glow.

The verdict: The LBD of makeup collections, it’s worth buying the eye shadow palette in bulk. The Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Capri Collection is on sale now. For more info, call, 1800 061 326.

Spoiler Alert! When it comes to nail trends, it seems rich, dark shades, like berry and plum are sitting tight for spring. Our votes goes to Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Molten Lava, $38, www.esteeladuer.com.au, which boasts just the right amount of shimmer to stop it from looking too moody.
