Lupita Nyong’o thinks her Afro hair is mouldable “like clay”, among other things she revealed when dishing her beauty secrets to Harper’s Bazaar.

The 31-year-old Oscar winner makes a case for embracing your god-given hair texture and saying no to the chemically straightened tresses popular among Hollywood starlets. (“You can mould it into whatever you want, but it’s also very easy for it to change shape during the day,” is how she puts it.)

And despite looking stunningly, shiningly, well-put-together on the regular, her approach to beauty is refreshingly low-maintenance.

Yes, the actress name-dropped more than a few Lancôme products – you may remember that the actress is the face of the beauty brand – but we were happy to hear her routine also includes inexpensive steals like avocado oil, which you’ll find beside your olive and vegetable oils at your local supermarket.

“At first I was using it just on my body, but then I realised it works on my face, and my hair too, for that matter! It's a one-stop shop.” Avocado oil, the new coconut?

There are also makeup tips for women with darker skin, which is too often missing from usual beauty editorials.
