How to apply gold eyeshadow

Eliza Ashe shows how to incorporate gold eyeshadow into your everyday make-up.

This season, makeup artists have been having a field day with metallic eye makeup. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia just last month we spotted gold powder being hand-painted across the temples, blended along the cheeks and brushed through model’s brows. But for a more wearable take on the trend, you can’t go wrong with a hint of gold or bronze shadow worn as liner.

 What you’ll need:

A pressed gold or bronze-toned eye shadow. We like Clinique Color Surge Eye Shadow Duo, $40, clinique.com.au.

When it comes to brushes, you have two options: for a smooth, clean line of definition, use a firm-bristled brush to press the shadow in-between the bottom lashes.

Try: MAC Cosmetics Flat 212 Definer Brush, $45.

Or, for a more subtle wash of gold, it’s worth investing in a small, rounded-tip brush, like MAC Cosmetics 213 Fluff Brush, $37 from maccosmetics.com.au, to smudge the product below the lash line.

Bonus tip: Want to make tired peepers pop? Try dabbing any excess shadow on the inner corners of the eyes –the extra hint of shimmer helps to bounce light off the skin to open up the eye area, before finishing the look with a coat or two of brown mascara.
